Personal Profile
Jonathan studied at the University of Bath where Ted Happold and Michael Brawne ran an integrated school of Architecture and Building Engineering.
In 1986 he was Equal First Prize Winner of the RIBA International Student Design Competition devised by Aldo Van Eyck, and was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art in London.
After leaving the University of Bath Jonathan worked for Leeds based practices John Brunton Partnership and Rod Briggs Design Group before joining careyjones in 1993.
Jonathan was appointed to the Board of careyjones in 1998 and he has also been an active member of the British Council for Offices. He became a member of the Association for Project Management in 1998 and brings this acquired knowledge to all the projects that he is involved with.
During his time at careyjones Jonathan was responsible for running various teams of Architects, Technologists and Interior Designers who assisted in the design and delivery of the featured projects. Jonathan's design skills and his careful attention to detail have ensured that he has been behind the design and delivery of many award winning projects.
Having spent 15 years working together Jonathan established think architecture+design with Simon Smithson in 2009.
Jonathan's combined interest in art and technology that first drew him to study at Bath University has also been expressed through Ducati ownership, although only when the sun shines.
His broader interests in the audio and visual arts have been at the heart of his long standing friendship with the guys at Hole in the Wall Productions which has resulted in various collaborations.

Established think architecture+design with fellow director Simon Smithson having spent 15 years working in practice together.
Office Refurbishment, Leeds
Proposals are currently being reviewed concerning a scheme to replace/refurbish the facade and environmental systems to one of the familiar 1960's high rise office buildings in Leeds.
21 Queen Street, Leeds
A major refurbishment scheme of a 1980s office building, including the addition of two new floors of accommodation. The scheme substantially rebrands the building through careful design of both new and existing elements.
Inner City Residential, Leeds
Studies are ongoing regarding this former high density residential site now proposed for low rise medium density housing providing a mix of accommodation including family townhouse dwellings and clustered apartments.
Mixed Use Development, Bradford
Development strategies are under review concerning this large site situated just outside the City Centre boundary. The sites huge potential is balanced against the challenging economic climate requiring an innovative approach to be taken.
Hotel Proposal, Leeds
This site formerly proposed for commercial development is currently being reviewed for hotel use taking advantage of it's adjacency to the city centre location and overall presence on the Leeds city-scape.

15/16 Park Row Leeds
Involved the demolition of a 1970's mid terrace office and its replacement with a 7 storey granite clad office with a structural glass facade sat on a strip of reclaimed adopted pavement.
North Concourse and Princes Exchange, Leeds
Reworking of the Listed 1930's Art Deco Station Concourse and the provision of a headquarter office building for a major International Law firm.
401 Grafton Gate, Central Milton Keynes
Located opposite the train station the buildings feature corner entrance provides a local landmark on the road network around Central Milton Keynes. The clear-span office floors provide very flexible workspace - a key factor in attracting the initial tenant Charles Schwab Europe.
No1 Whitehall Riverside, Leeds
This is the second of a series of buildings planned for the Whitehall Riverside site and takes full advantage of its south facing riverside location. The building was substantially prelet due largly to location, visibility and excellent internal flexibility provided by the 16.5 m clear span structural grid.
White Rose Office Park, Leeds
Mid-town Office Park where work undertaken has included new build and refurbishment projects providing accommodation for occupiers; 02, HSBC, DePuy, Inland Revenue, WSP and others.
Rod Briggs Design Group 1988 - 1993
Responsible for the design and delivery of end-user facilities including offices, distribution facilities and industrial units for clients such as Royal Mail and Ring Lamp Co. and also large scale private house refurbishment projects and listed barn conversions.
John Brunton Partnership 1987 - 1988
Involved with various residential projects for Housing Association clients and the refurbishment of suites at the Devonshire Arms Hotel, Bolton Abbey.
