Whitehall Riverside Footbridge Leeds, 2008
An integral part of the Whitehall Riverside masterplan was always the River Aire pedestrian footbridge providing connectivity to Holbeck, an area designated for major urban regeneration.
Whilst working at careyjones architects the bridge was originally conceived by Jonathan as a butterfly bridge spanning this non-navigable stretch of the River Aire. After working with David Tasker of Capita Symonds the proposal evolved into an asymmetric single support bridge with cantilever deck.
The detailed design continued to evolve seeing the bridge becoming the route used by YEDL for their supply reinforcement scheme. At the same time proposals were developed for a feature lighting scheme to highlight the delicate form of the supporting arch and gently curving deck.
